Emmy Heil Frensel-Wegener
(b. Amsterdam, Jun 14, 1901; d. Laren, Jan 11, 1973)
Dutch composer, daughter of Bertha Frensel Wegener-Koopman, who was a composer as well. She studied the violin with Felice Togni at the Amsterdam Conservatory, graduating in 1925. She studied composition with Sem Dresden and clarinet with Willem Brohm. She wrote poetry and both Rosy Wertheim and Anna Mesritz van Velthuysen set music to her poems.
Works:
Due to developing multiple sclerosis in the early 1930s, she stopped composing. This led to only a small collection of music. There are 3 works for orchestra and several for chamber music. Her Shakespeare-Suite (1929) was performed by the Concertgebouw Orchestra with Pierre Monteux as conductor. Her works were performed in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and in Hungury.
